Atkinson flew R5172 twice on 6 March 1941, during his training at RAF Ansty. He joined 78 Sqn, surviving a ditching in a Whitley while returning from a raid on Mannheim in early 1942; Atkinson lost his life flying a Halifax later the same year. More to follow.
